Frequently Asked Questions
While we believe our mission to be a simple and straightforward one, our goals are frequently misrepresented by the mainstream media and those who wish to impose their singular worldview on everyone around them. Let's try to clear some things up!
How do you pray people out of homosexuality?
This is a common misconception about our beliefs and practices. While we encourage people to pray for strength as they fight sinful feelings and temptations that have been created in them by wayward parts of our society, we don't believe there is a "cure" for same-sex attraction. When people come to us, they feel conflicted about these feelings, and how they don't line up with what God teaches us in the Bible. These people want to engage in romantic relationships the way God intended: between one man and one woman. It is often a lifelong struggle for these people, and our goal is to support and show them how they can fight that struggle and live happy lives in the love of Christ.
Can't gay people just be gay people?
It is our belief that America is the greatest country in the world because it has been governed under Christian ideals since its founding. Our research into the Biblical teachings of Christ and scientific-based psychology tells us that a homosexual lifestyle is harmful to the fabric of our society and the emotional well-being of individuals. But like any other affliction, people with same-sex attractions can only change when they seek treatment. Anyone who comes to Camp Str8-N-Arrow chooses to do so -- we do not force anyone to come here, and we ask that family members not force their loved ones to attend. We believe in freedom from a lifestyle that has been associated with immoral behavior, drugs, depression, and in some extreme cases, suicide.
Does God love gay people?
Of course. God loves everyone. He loves Christians, Jews, Muslims, prostitutes, drug lords, illegal immigrants, terrorists, and yes, homosexuals. It's because God loves everyone unconditionally that He gave us His greatest gift: free will. It is up to all of us to choose to accept Christ as our Savior and take His love deep inside ourselves. At Camp Str8-N-Arrow, we want to help people who feel desires that are contrary to the teachings of God's word in the Bible. For those who experience same-sex attractions, it can be hard to follow God's word. Really, really hard. That's where Camp Str8-N-Arrow comes into the picture. When campers are going through the hardest parts of their lives, they can come to us, and we'll help them enter God's loving spirit again.
